V-Shaped Ribcage
Does anyone else have a v-shaped ribcage? After looking at a picture of my back, I realized my back is extremely v-shaped or funnel shaped. (I wish it was muscle but it is just the way my body is shaped. 😉)
I experimented. I hooked my bras on two different vertical rows: the upper row hooked one vertical row out (looser) than the bottom hook. So the bra band should match the shape of my ribcage now! TA DAH! It was amazing!! A lot of breast tissue that was escaping out the side of the cups were now contained. The band felt more secure and more comfortable to wear! Previously, I couldn't understand why bands that were 1-3" larger than my underbust measurement felt too tight and I even felt winded in some. The top part of the band was too tight but the lower part was fine! Before, I would usually get spillage out the sides (indicating too small a cup) as well as gaping in the cup (indicating too big a cup) and it confused me so much! All my bras now seem to either fit very well or I can nail the fit issues immediately! This is a big eye opener for me!
I read a great blog about this issue recently (I am sorry I forgot the site) and this person mentioned that Freya was a good brand for this shape because of the more flexible underwires. I am wondering if that is why I love wearing Freyas and find them the most comfortable (band wise) to wear.
Just curious if anyone else has a similar body shape and what worked for you. Do you wear your bras on two different rows? Is that bad?

Yes I'm also built this way. I admit I'm a brafitting rogue and in many bras I get around it by just wearing the band a bit low. I'm also fortunate that I have virtually no tissue on the upper outer quadrant or in the tail of Spence area so the front part of the bra doesn't bother me. But some bras are definitely just not wearable because of it. Wearing the bra on two different rows is not a problem at all as long as they'll stay hooked that way. Some people also make a little dart in the lower part of the band to make it smaller and then buy band sizes that fit the wider, upper part of their torso.
I sometimes have to wear mine the other way, tighter at the top hook and looser at the bottom, to help with uneven band tension on my flared ribcage. It depends on the bra, though. I don't have to do it with my Comexims, but I do with Freya.
