I have squishy skin but an athletic build, and I prefer tight bands. Warning: stupid question ahead. Where do you measure the band while wearing a bra? To be exact, when you pull the band away from your body and see how many fingers you can fit between the two, where on your body and bra is the part that you pull out?

I've noticed that in my 28 bands, I get the proper fit on my spine, but it's almost too tight on my lats. When I go up to 30's, the cups usually end up resting above my (imaginary) IMF and on my breast. At this point there's a proper fit on my lats, but too much room over my spine. Going up to 32's gives me great cleavage but no support at all. Any ideas? I know I have a little back fat over my lats, could that be the problem?

These are all not only different styles, but different brands, if it helps.

The 28's are 28DD - Freya » Deco Charm Moulded Plunge Bra (1471) , 28DD - Freya » Deco Moulded Plunge Bra (4234) , and 28DD - Curvy Kate » Arizona Balcony Bra (CK3801) .

The 30's are 30DD - Gossard » Superboost Lace T Shirt Bra (7717) , 30D - Parfait By Affinitas » Madeline Wire Bra (4502) , 30D - Curvy Kate » Love Struck Plunge Padded Bra (SG2611), 30DD - Cleo » Darcy Padded Balconette (6821)

  • I usually test from the back, right at the clasp. I can't quite help with your other problem but if you like tight bands and the 28's are comfortable, I'd stick with them. They sound like they give you the best support and fit you the best cup wise. If you want to try 30's, try looking for the tighter ones that measure at 29~. That way they'd be tighter than the 30's but a little looser than the 28's.

  • You should not be pulling on your bands at all! That does not help determine anything, the tension involved in actually sitting on your torso is completely different from the tension that occurs when a band is being pulled manually. You should be relying instead on support and whether the band stays put. If the band is riding up on your back, or worse, on your front over your boobs, that's clearly too big. A band that is too tight will often ride down, the gore or lateral ends of the wire may poke you, or the wires may be pulled out too far laterally.
