Question about using extenders.

Well, recently I got a 28DD @Parfait by Affinitas @Charlotte, which is the first bra that mostly fits. I've found it has some drawbacks. The band is sooo tight. I loosened some with a washing, but not sure how much it is going to stretch. I think it contributes to how much the gore is digging in (I have been shoving a cotton ball or makeup sponge between it and my skin). I also have a @Partfait by Affinitas Kelly, in a 30DD. The band feels OK (cups too big), but I can stretch it and easily fit a hand under the band, so I thought I needed to go with a 28. Interestingly, I've found that the gore of that one also digs in, although that was somewhat resolved by bending the wires open a little....making them slightly wider.

So, I went to Target and bought a bra extender, which is something I've never used before. Even on the shortest extension, it adds far too much length to the band, and that makes the cups totally not fit right. While I was getting a little bit of emptiness in the upper corners near the band (depending on position and how recently I have swooped and scooped) and slight quadding a little lower in the cup, it was minimal and something I could live with. (I do not think I am going to find anything that resolves this issue 100%, except, perhaps, breast augmentation).

However, with the extender on, there is a ton of gapping in that spot. :( The straps, which previously did not slide off my shoulders at all, continuously slid off. I was going to try this bra in a 30D, but now I am wondering if that's worth it. Opinions?

Are there extenders that add just a tiny bit of length?

  • Are you hooking the extender on the last set of loops or the first? If you hook the extender on the tightest set of loops so that it somewhat overlaps with the rows of loops on the end of the bra strap, you can use the set of loops on the extender that are just slightly past the end of the bra band. Hope that made sense. It will give you a set of loops that make the band just a little bit longer.
My Parfait Charlotte did eventually loosen up a bit, but it is a notoriously stiff band with not a lot of stretch.

  • So if I understand correctly, your Charlotte looked good but felt uncomfortably tight without an extender, and then once you put on an extender, it didn't look right anymore, with gaps in some places and quad boob elsewhere ? I would have to see photos to speak confidently but just want to point out that there are some bras where a too-tight or too-loose band will mask other problems, especially cup shape incompatibility. It's possible that the Charlotte just isn't a very good shape for you and that this issue was simply obscured before when the cups were distorted by a very tight band.
