Was just wondering, how bad is not tacking? I've never had a completly tacking bra... I recently discovered EM bras but even those don't tack...when i press the centre gore to my sternum i def quadboob but going up a cupsize i still don't tack and have gaping cups (which def wasn't wearable) this concerns the s and plunge style. In the largest BM style there is also not a complete tack and some slight incutting lace... I now ordered a FB style but EM mentions that in this style the centre gore might not touch the sternum and that this is ok for this style...but that sounds weird?

  • In big cup sizes it's quite common to have close-set breasts and a lot of centre fullness, which is a terrible recipe for a tacking gore. Even when the gore does tack, it can sit on breast tissue which isn't exactly comfortable. (One of the BM bras I tried felt terrible and dug into my breasts because it somehow tacked and I wanted it to stop).

While the conventional underwired bra design has been structured to provide the best support with a tacking gore, it's not always possible for each individual.

In my personal opinion, Ewa saying that the gore in the FB not tacking is okay is kind of a cop-out because the bra is structurally designed to work its best with the central section sitting flat against the chest, there's no amazing structural innovations in that regard. But she's probably considered that during fit testing it was virtually impossible to get wires of a width and angle that will consistently sit flat when dealing with the centre fullness of really big cup sizes (that's supposition on my part, but I'd think it would be likely). Should the gore tack? Ideally yes. But I think that very few people have a perfect textbook fit in a bra and if the bra is comfortable and you're happy with the way it fits, that's what matters most of all.

  • Those of us in the higher cup ranges with a ton of center fullness often have to make decision on what fit issues are non-negotiable. For me a good tack is non-negotiable. Too many years in the wrong size with underwires sitting on tissue! I often give up forward project and accept a tack if I am a bit East West. For reference my most common size is a 36J or 38HH with a ton of center fullness and VERY soft tissue.

I find that gores too high will never work for me and have recently experimenting with some Elomi Plunge styles. I always assumed these would not work and I would fall into the middle. But miracles! Both Kenza and the new Carmen fit very well.

Experiment with a lower gore and see what happens!
