I'm in a bit of a quandary about my size. My laying perimeter is 9.25 inches roughly, maybe a little less. What makes me confused is I have a bra with a 9.3 inch depth (Comexim 65H) that barely fits, a bra with a 9.5 inch fit that quadded (Panache 30F), a different (now sold bra) that had a 9.5 inch depth that gapped (Ewa, and a final bra with a depth of 10 inches that seems to fit pretty okay. Why is there so much discrepancy? Is it my shape (narrow and deep) or the type of bra?

  • Well, first of all, laying perimeter is not always the best (tho it is for me). That comexim looks really shallow. The panache isnt listed, so I dont konw what it was. and yeah, the ewa is slightly big. But the shape of a cup affects how much depth it measures vs what you need. Sometimes if a bra is too wide, some of the depth is wasted on the sides. If a bra is a half cup or a plunge, there is less material there but it holds the same size breast. That too-big-ish EM S gives you more coverage than your other bras.

but really its not a huge discrepancy. Its just not a precise science.

  • I would think that it has a lot to do with the shape of the bra. If the cup is wide, that depth is going to be spread out over a larger area. If the cup if narrow, it's going to be a more projected cup. Two bras may technically hold the same "amount" of breast, but if they expect that breast to be wider, narrower, taller, shorter, more to the center, more to the sides or whatever... then it won't fit unless your breasts conform to where that bra is the deepest. Knowing roughly what depth you need is good, but you need to know what width of wires work best for you, too. I hope this makes sense.
