Foam Cup Height Alteration Help?

Question:

If you find that cups that are deep enough are too tall (and sometimes a touch too wide even in Polish brands) but find it painful when sizing down to try to make your volume distribute more thoroughly in the cups, what do you do?

Been thinking of shortening the cups of some of my bras, and I've seen some links for altering cup height, but they seem to all be working with unlined bras, and primarily ones that have the straps attaching to a bottom piece of the cup, rather than the horizontal part. My EM S Kamea (65GG) is way more comfortable for me due to its depth, and I fill out everything but the purple top pieces. Kinda did some poking around to see if there was emptiness anywhere else, because I'm feeling really squished when I wear the S Letnia Noc (65G).

Is there any way I can alter a foam cup without ruining it? I don't own a sewing machine, but if I need to I'm not opposed to the idea of buying one.

  • I have been dreaming of cutting the foam and wrapping the edges with fold over elastic.

  • You can cut the foam and cover the edges with some ribbon trim, some of the cup fabric (trim less of the fabric than the foam), or some lace (think how the CHPs tend to all have a lace trim). You'll also need to remove the straps and move them down (and possibly in), and this will always leave a bump in the cup short of pulling apart almost the whole bra and putting it back together, though the more I've done this the better I've got at making it look good (some of my early alterations were pretty funky looking).

You can definitely do this by hand although it will be a little time-consuming. A machine will make it a bit faster. (If it was just a one-off to see how you like it, you could maybe ask someone you know to use theirs?)
