Odd Question About Shape

The "lean test" would have me believe I'm even in terms of vertical breast tissue distribution. My roots are crazy short, and my breasts seem to be pretty projected. My tissue seems to be on the softer side.

My best fit in UK bras has been Cleo Marcie, which is fairly open on top.

In fact, from what I can tell, nearly everything that's worked for me has been open top but not tall. Reddit's ABTF would have me believe that if I'm even with short roots, I'm functionally FOB, but every time I try something that's FOB it looks like I'm quadding-- or if the cups are tall my boobs just eat up whatever depth there is at the bottom and the top sorta lays like a half-constructed tent. When I size down, my breasts get squished and compressed and it hurts, even if the cup is still too tall.

If I need bras that are open on top, does that make me FOT? Or am I just trying the wrong sizes or cuts?

  • I think it sounds like you're short rooted but FOT. Just like you said, the short roots can sometimes make you functionally FOB.

  • I'm short-rooted and the lean test would consider me to be even, but I really can't wear anything which is too closed in on top because it cuts in at the top-centre of the cup where I've got the most breast fullness (I mean it's really slight, but there's a bit more there than everywhere else and I'm just very projected and very full. There's only so much chest wall I have and my boobs had to go somewhere). I don't think that short roots always make you functionally FOB and I think that there's a lot of shape factors at play which we can't really break down with the few simple descriptors. If you've got soft tissue or a fair bit of tissue top centre, you may be like me and need an openish top cup even if you have room to land a plane at the outside of the cup where it's taller and joins the strap. I've had the most success with cups with a stretch lace top (but may just be an it seems to be really good for huge boobs thing, I'm not sure if it's a general short-rooted but not FOB thing).
