Sewing newbie

Ok, so I'm really new to sewing. I bought the brother se 400 because it was supposed to be so great for beginners. After HOURS of tutorials, I thought I finally threaded the machine properly. It doesn't work well still and I keep snapping needles. I ordered a singer instead because I heard they were better for bra bands&newbies! So now my question is, what needles work best for bra bands. Particularly the elastic part like on the edge of the VS bra? Leather needles, denim, heavy duty???? Help?!? I'm clueless

  • have you tried going to a sewing store and signing up for lessons?

  • You probably don't have it threaded correctly if it's breaking needles , get some basic universal needles for practice but for knits and such you will want ballpoint or stretch needle , the number will indicate the strengths however I use a basic ball needle for bra sewing with no problem you don't need heavy duty .

Thread your machine , making sure that the needle is in the correct position when you replaced it. Typically the flat side to the back , the thread not looping around the needle or anything and get some basic scraps and practice sewing straight lines , then zig zag until you have the feel of the machine and tension . I do this with all new to me machines there is always a bit of a learning curve with a new machine .

I think your probably doing something basic in the threading , needle replacement but can't help much..sometimes you just have to do it one on one with someone . That knows sewing . So know anyone that sees?
