Measurements in comments

I was meaning to make a blog post about this, but the point is really simple.

Now that there's a bit of crowd online that uses measurements to check for bras, I see here and there people asking for measurements to others about bras (rightfully so), but then I see that the replies include measurements as the body of the comment instead of a link to a bra's measurements.

The main problem with measurements in a comment is that your effort measuring helps only the one person that made the question. Having the measurements in a bra entry allows to refer to it and then this measuring effort is helpful to thousands of people in the future.

When structured they are good for searches, averages, comparisons, recommendations, linking, exporting, etc. On comments, after they've been used by the person who asked, they get lost in time and pretty much unrecoverable.

Something that I think that is great about Bratabase is that is not a walled garden. The content here is Internet friendly, meaning that you can link a Bratabase page anywhere and they'll be able to see it (obviously as long as it is not private content) and our content is accessible not only by humans but also by robots (like Google , Twitter, Facebook, etc) which enhances its reach greatly. I always encourage link sharing across the Internet which is what makes the web tick, and this was built with that in mind.

TL;DR: When you see numbers in a comment to refer to a measurement, ask for a Bratabase link so the information is useful in the future.

  • I so appreciate this post! As a new user in a size range that doesn't have too many bras' measurements listed, it is so valuable to me to know whether to try to bra or not bother by viewing measurements! I try to add measurements to all the bras I try, even if I don't do a review or post pics, because each bra will fit each breast differently, but the numbers can be key for me to see if a bra is even worth my time and money to check out.

  • Also, reading the measurement instructions ( http://www.bratabase.com/help/measuringinstructions/ ) is intensely important. Incorrect measurements are almost worse than no measurements.
