"That can't be your size!"

Do you ladies get disbelief as well when you "reveal" your bra size? Whenever I talk about bras and how hard it is to find something that fits, people usually don't believe it can that hard. They think that, since there are brands that make bras for busty women (such as Lovable and Triumph) it must be impossible that I struggle to find bras my size! (Not.)

In Italy there's a terrible bra sizing system that only takes into consideration the band size. For example, a 30 should be a I size, and often the cup size is not even specified, but it's usually a B cup. So, in order to find the right cup volume, I should buy a VII size (42B), which is huge compared to the supposed average II/III size of italian women and out the usual range most stores carry.
You can sometimes find C cups or even D, E and F cups in more expensive stores (but nothing fits me anyway because bands are always too big).

So, when I get disbelief, I try to explain about band size vs. cup size, and there's the usual question: "So, what size are you then? A IV, right?". I get the urge to laugh at them because a IV would be a 36B and it would never fit me. And when I say that I should buy a VII size to have cups that fit, I get laughed at, because "my breasts aren't that big". And the truth is, compared to many other women, they're not. And when I say that I'm actually a G cup, although paired with a small band (but who cares about that, right?), they laugh harder because in their experience, a D cup is big already, so how can I be a G?
But isn't this more proof that our sizing system doesn't work if a woman with slightly bigger breasts than average has to buy "freakishly big" sizes?

I think this stems from women having no idea how a bra should fit, which brings them to wear too small cups (especially since we see models with breasts spilling all over the place), so a IV size/a D cup is considered big.
As of late, I'm avoiding bra talk because I always feel disappointed and somewhat belittled by people's comments. It really annoys me when someone who doesn't even know how bra sizing works presumes to know all about my boobs and dismisses everything I say!

Sorry about the long rant, but I'm pretty sure this happens to many of you as well, and you're the only ones that can understand the struggle!

  • Yep, happens to me too. I wear about a 32JJ, so people think there's no way I can be a 32 band and they don't think a JJ exists. Most people just see large breasts and think "big number and 2 or 3 Ds sounds about right".

  • Exactly, it's so frustrating at times! I imagine you have it even worse tha me XD
