Plus-size and projected

I'm new to the bratabase world and trying to find bras that fit. Especially discouraging are the bras that I THINK fit, only to realize eight hours in to wearing it that it really doesn't. I imagine a lot of this is just not being super sure of my shape/root width/everything, and that it will improve in time. This is going to be long and specific, but will maybe help out other plus sized gals? One can hope, anyway.

What's making things harder is the limited number of bras available in a 44+ band, and the lack of reviews from people of similar sizes and breast types. Where you at, boob twins?!

Okay, so here's what I'm pretty sure of: I'm a pretty solid 44 band, and can do 42 with stretchy bands. My breasts are close-set and I've had to alter a few gores so that the wires don't poke me in the sternum or rest on breast tissue. Generally, the 44G (and sister sizes) seem to be the best cup volume. I'm definitely FoT. I am comfortable altering bands and gores as needed.

I think I'm pretty projected as I've yet to find a bra that will stay in my IMF, even with lots of experimenting with tightening and loosening bands to try things out. One of two things seems to happen: either the bra slips down and leaves about a half an inch of empty space at the very bottom of the cup, or the bra looks on the outside like it's right in my IMF but when I lift the bottom up I can very clearly feel that my breast has actually folded against my chest at the very bottom, and the wire is still not really in my IMF.

Brands I've tried:

Sculptresse - I've tried the Sculptresse Chi-chi Full Cup Bra (7695) - its gore is too high, the wires slide right out of my IMF, I think the wires are too wide, and when I wear it all day the underwires bother me in my armpits after a few hours. I've also tried the Sculptresse Flirtini Balconnet Bra (7685), which is a lot better in the gore and armpit areas and is probably my best fitting and most comfortable bra so far, but I get the folding at the bottom of the breast I mentioned above.

Curvy Kate - Tried the Curvy Kate Dreamcatcher Balcony Bra (CK2301) in a 44FF, it fit pretty well but got a tiny bit of quadding on my big side and after I wore it for a few hours it hurt on the outside of my right breast and at the sternum. Also tried the Curvy Kate Gia Balcony Bra (CK2101) , which fits pretty well but slides out of my IMF.

I've also tried various cacique molded cups which just don't work at all. I've got a Comexim on order from Wellfitting to see if that will work, but it'll take a while to get here and my funds are limited.

In the meantime, are there any other brands/models I should be trying? Is there anybody blogging about and reviewing plus size full figure bras out there? I have googled and googled and read loads of reviews, but I haven't found much.

tl;dr, I'm plus sized and my breasts are both large and projected. What brands and models have good projection in a 42+ band size? Are the polish brands most likely to be my Obi-Wan Kenobra?

  • @cupandahalf Do you have recommendations?

  • I do! ennakym can you provide measurements for these bras? That will really help us figure out what kind of wire width and cup depth you need and this which brands/models to look at.
