Ewa Michalak Chalet PL vs Comexim Noir, faito

(They're not really in any kind of competition, my goal is to have room for both these lovely brands in my wardrobe.)

Got my order from BraObsessed today! Jaimie was very patient and encouraging and we hashed out my bra problems for many emails before finally coming to an order:

70GG - Ewa Michalak » Pl Chalet and 75HH - Comexim » Noir Plunge Bra (410) ...

Jaimie initially suggested that the Noir would probably fit very similarly to my existing 70HH - Comexim » Rose Plunge Bra -- albeit with a more closed top, so sizing up was probably a good idea. But during our conversation, she realized she had an exceptionally small 75HH on hand, and said that would probably work for me.

She was spot-on with the Comexim. If anything, the Noir feels tighter than the Rose; a _hard_ stretch only brings it to 32", and being more gentle it doesn't even quite want to stretch as far as 30". With an extender, it still feels very firm, but maybe not quite as supportive as one would like. The cups are more or less perfect.

But then there's the EM... oh dear. I think adding photographs of me in this bra would do a tremendous disservice to how lovely it is, because the bra is visibly too big on me. On the tightest hooks, it feels amazingly comfortable, so I need at least a 65 in at least this particular EM. (Which is a bit wild to me, as bras that are comfortable in a real 30 are few and far between for me, despite my measurements.) Frustratingly, nothing in the measurements on the Chalet PL suggest that it should run this big; a hard stretch brings it to 35", but a less destructive stretch has it at 31", which is about as far as I like my bras to stretch usually... I compromised and rated it a 32", but now I feel like part of the problem! ;)

They're both lovely bras appearance-wise, with the materials on the EM feeling a little bit higher grade to me. (Appropriate, as that more or less matches the difference in their price points.)

But now I'm pretty worried about the other EM I ordered through B.O., an SF in a similar shape...! Hopefully Jaimie will be able to set me straight. :)

  • man, if i had more money, i'd definitely try ordering from there. you all seem to have such wonderful experiences

  • dbmamaz aww ;; I'm sorry! She genuinely is the MOST helpful salesperson I've ever talked to... and she's bratabase-savvy, she gave me the stretched-band length on the Noir and Belle du Nuit (sp probably) without me asking for it.

The only other experience I've had that was really comparable was with Katy from Katherine Intimates / Bosoms Galore, whom I initially contacted about the latter line before I mentioned I was looking at Polish bras because I need narrower wires, and she immediately pointed me at the former.

I also wanna give a shoutout to the Store of Lingerie in Denver, CO, for being willing to alter bras bands for you free of charge. They don't carry enough brands that cater to bigger cups, but when I used to be able to fit into Marie Jo's range, I had a standing order with them that involved taking a 34E and cutting the band down to a 32F. When I expressed interest in a "nude" corset-type bra for a strapless solution, they also told me that they didn't have any, but could "tea-dye" a white one for me. (I'm v sad I don't live there anymore to take advantage of it, as the only brick-and-mortar store closer to me wouldn't even take a return after I'd had a bra for exactly 1 day and realized it didn't fit.)

I feel like this should be a regular feature or something on btb; the Everyday Heroes that make navigating this nonsense a little more bearable through Herculean feats of patience and expertise.
