May 01, 2013. Wire alterations
So, I have now replaced the wires of my Mimi Holliday bras and the Tanzania stripe.
I think it was a success
The good wires I had taken from my Kapp Ahl bras needed to be shortened. It was tough work!!! A Leatherman multi-tool tongs were the only tool that managed to cut the wires, and I needed a man to do the job. Then I used a metal file to round the cut edges and I coated them with super glue!
Then I just cut open my bras with a seam stripper, took the old wire out and put the new one in. It was difficult at times, some seams were easier to strip than others. The sewing had to be done by hand because the fabric would have been too thick for a sewing machine.
I only had Kapp Ahl wires for 4 bras, and 8 bras to alter, so I had to go shopping for some cheap sale bras with decent wires. That´s when I noticed that the same brand and bra model can have different wires in different sizes..!! Sturdy in, say, 80D and stretchy in 70C or so. It was hard to find good wires because there aren´t many shops where I live. I finally found some and also ended up stuffing 2 wires per cup for two bras! I don´t know how that´ll work in the long run, but those wires were vey narrow (otherwise I wouldn´t have been able to stuff them in in the first place).
Now that I have only tried the bras on after alterations the fit seems much better in Mimi Holliday bras The Tanzania stripe is also better, but not perfect. I don´t really get it, how could anyone have a good fit in it because the cups have a really strange shape... The cups are really shallow at the outer bottom areas and not that shallow at the bottom in the center area. I will still wear them because they are so damn cute...
I´m very pleased with the results It was quite hard in the beginning but now that know the method, and what works and what not, I might do the same again if it is required.
