Thoughts on strap placement / cup shape/ Ewa Michalak

I´ve been wondering lately about bra structures and the cup shape they create. In some of the bras I´ve sewn myself, the wires are bent a little too much to to side and although cups should fit perfectly, they are kind of flattened when wearing the bra. My wires should not be too flimsy, in fact I often put 2 wires to one channel/ cup. I´ve come to the conclusion that if I placed the straps further away from the center, more to the armpit area, cup shape would be better - boobs would be pushed more to the front and wires would not bend so much when I wear the bra. (I also think that I should try side panels to the cups but I´m not familiar with them just yet!)

-> this got me thinking of EM bras. They are known for their ability to push the boobs forward and create great lift! And oh so many struggle with the strap placement, because straps are in their armpits. If one moves the straps, then some of the lift + shape is lost.

Any thoughts? Is this making sense?
Bra sewing is so much fun and very interesting, but it is grazy how even small adjustments can affect the overall fit!

  • Yes, I never realized how much the shape changes just from something as small as moving the strap in a little bit.
I had this happen with a padded balcony where I moved the straps in to close the top of the cups, since I'd gotten 1 cup size too big.
Unfortunately it COMPLETELY changed the shape. Instead of the cups lying straight across my breasts, they now angle up at the outer corners and I've lost the cakes on a plate look too.

  • Wow, thats so interesting. I wonder how Comexim's 'move straps in' affects the fit of the bras?
