How often does your size change in your 30s-50s?

I was measured in 2015 at a specialty boutique known for doing good fittings. At the time, I was a 38G in UK sizing. In the last 2-3 months, I've noticed myself having more back pain than usual and I'd even bought a wireless bra a few months back in a bigger size, but I didn't clue in that my sizing had actually changed until this week. I remeasured here at bratabase and my new recommendations were confusing. I got 38FF-38G-38GG. So today I went back to the boutique for a fitting (I'm a 38GG in my best-fitting brand) and I also went to the Lane Bryant/Cacique store to check their comparable sizing (I'm between 38H and 40G, though the 40G is more comfortable to get on). I was 38G when I was last measured at Cacique around 9-12 months ago.

I think I had a growth spurt recently or I somehow gradually increased in size in the last 12 months. My weight is about the same (I've actually lost 3-5 pounds since last year) and as far as I can tell, I'm not pregnant, so it's weird that I would have a spurt like that when I've recently started working out and lost weight. I know breast sizes can fluctuate, particularly with hormonal changes, but I'm curious, how often does your size change? And is it common to go up a full cup size or more within a year (when not pregnant?). I'm 38 years old. Not sure if this is a change in hormones as I approach menopause, a random growth spurt or something else.

For those of you in your 30s, 40s and 50s, how often do you get resized or notice a significant size change?

  • I'm in my 50s, but I only first really found 'real' bras that fit me about 2 years ago, when I was a 32J in UK sizes. Since then I gained weight - which i'm blaming on pre-menopause and also going to an online school - spending even more time sitting - and i've gone up to a 32JJ in panache.

But working out can change your body, too

  • If you've lost weight and have been working out, it's possible that you body composition has changed, even if it's not a huge change or if you don't see it. You might have less body fat and more muscle on your back or around the ribcage, and that could affect how comfortable your bras fit.
This also happened to me - I lost around 3-4kg and I noticed that I was finding my previously comfortable bras to require adjusting through the day, although my clothes still fit comparably.
