Question about different cup styles

I see so many different types. Full coverage, plunge, half cup, balconnet, ect. Is there a certain shape you need to be or should be in order for certain cups to fit correctly, or is it everyone is different and you have to try them to see what works best?

Again, you all are SO supportive and helpful with all of my questions. Thank you!

  • Each style of cup construction mnught fit different breast type. For example half cups tend to fit well with wide breast as the wires tend to be wider. some women with a lot of center fullness like plunge bras as their breast can touch each other freely in the middle (which i don,t personally find comdortable). It also provides a nice clevage. Full cups are very popular for women who don't know their true size. In the 34-40 A-D range, women qith bigger breast tend too choose full cups as this cup construction might contain their tissue better. However, when proprerly ajusted, full cups do not necessairly offer better support.
I would say balconnet is the 'basic' cup construction. These cups can be lower or higher cut, have side-support or not. They can fit wide or narrow roots depending on the width of the wires. They can also fit close-set or wide-set breast depending on the width of the gore.
That being said, there is no 'best' cup construction, we each have our preferences!

  • What charlielheureux said. There are certain styles that are a little better suited to certain breast types depending on if you are wide rooted or narrow and if you have close-set or wide-set breasts and then there are shapes for full on top and full on bottom. I took a quiz on Bare Necessities which was great for explaining which bra styles will better suit your boobs based on your breasts, shoulders and torso. I'm close-set and wide rooted with sloping/narrow shoulders. I like balconettes and half-cup styles for the most part. Full coverage doesn't quite work for me, particularly if the center gore is high. But ultimately, it does come down to preference. See what shapes are recommended for your breast type and try them out and get a feel for what is most supportive and comfortable. It's hard when you're in that F+ size range to find the right bra with the right amount of support, comfort, and beautiful aesthetics. It might take some trial and error before you find the perfect bra. And sometimes it's getting several "almost there" bras (as long as they have the comfort and support you need) while you search for your unicorn bra, which is what some of the ladies here call the perfect fit bra that is so elusive to find!
