Confession: I have been wearing my bras too low
Sorry Vee and other people who have gently tried to hint that my bras sit too low. I really didn't believe I could put them much higher. Then, once again as I was lying on my bed with an iPod and having trouble keeping my boobs in my bra, I tried something new.
I shifted my bra up where my boobs start (lying on my back) and shortended the straps considerably. And guess what? When I got up, it felt ok. Weird, but ok. The next day when I put my bra on standing up, I did it the recommended way, leaning over, cups and band first and straps on after that. I always lean over to put the bra on, but usually I've put my arms through the straps first. But that way it's harder to find the root of my boobs, it seems.
I need the straps to way tighter now. As the bottom of the underwire is about 2-2.5 cm up from where it used to be, the straps need to be shortened accordingly. Now my old Panache Tango Ii Balconette (3251)s have almost too long straps (they've stretched out I think) and the wires are WAY too wide. And my Ewa Michalak Sm Trefl that used to have almost too short straps fits much better. I feel that it's better to wear it without the extender now.
And my clothes fit better too, of course, with my apex being 2-2.5 cm higher.
All this time I really thought I might have low set boobs, high back and whatnot... And I really was wearing my bra too low. I just couldn't believe...

A word of caution; bra fitting is mostly fat moulding and bras are not always shaped as our boobs.
The creases some of us have when on our backs is very often not the same as that when leaning over. I've seen this both on myself and on old pinup pics. Even on a skinny person creases differs with position.
I think what you might have done here is cutting off possible bottom tissue.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, I'm just saying a lot of times bra fitting is bullshit because the human body doesn't separate breast tissue from the body in the way wires does. This is why we swoop and scoop. It makes us end up with new bra fitting problems however which the bra fitting community hasn't so far addressed.
The way I see it bra fitting is fat moulding. And a lot of times we don't know if something is boobs or not.
Neither will we ever know it. It's about making choices.
I use the word "possible bottom tissue" because I don't think one knows for sure what is what.
Although I somewhat agree with your theory Branarchist you do have to note that there are women out there with not much to mould and/or very 'defined' boobs so the theory can't be considered an universal one :)
As for TM , I did suspect the bra was riding a bit too low, but maybe the best thing is to put up a fitting request with both ways of tutting the bra on featured?
Or I'm just curious to see how your boobs look like now :)
Anyway, how high you wear your bra - if it's not causing any fitting issues - is also about preferences. So as with bands, I'd say hre also we should differ 'as high (or as low as possible) and as high as necessary.
Personaly I like my bras yanked up as high as possible, not just because I am very high on chest, but also because I think that way boobs look younger and perkier :)
