They say most women are wearing the wrong size bra, so for fun I decided to look online at my local bra shops to see what they'd recommend. For reference, I wear a 30E.

La Senza - THE big bra retailer near me. According to their charts, I could fit either a 32D, 34A or 34B.
La Vie en Rose - another bra shop in my local mall. My measurements aren’t even on their size chart.
Victoria Secret - their online sizing tool gives me an error message.
Aerie - 34A
Wonderbra - 32C

And this is why Canadian women have a hard time finding bras that fit. I’ve been wearing mostly La Senza bras for almost 20 years, and I thought there was something wrong with me, that I was always spilling out of their bras. I spent years wearing sports bras or even 2 bras (a t-shirt bra with a bralette over top) to keep everything contained.

I’m still seething mad that those La Senza saleswomen sold a naive teenager 36A and B bras when they sooo clearly didn’t fit. I still remember the surprise and confusion the first time I heard that gores are supposed to touch your sternum!

Even my local good lingerie boutique is hit or miss. I’ve had amazing salesladies and truly terrible ones. I’ll never forget the one who made me feel like my breasts were deformed (they aren’t.) and that no company made bras that would fit me (they do). She tried to force bras to fit me, by loosening the straps and pulling the band so low it could’ve been a belt. The underwires were way below my IMF and smooshing my breasts downwards. When I called her on it, she got the manager to come look, who tugged the band even lower and said it was a great fit.

So that’s what bra shopping is like in Canada - in my area anyways. I’m so grateful for the internet, communities like this one and Amazon prime! What’s bra shopping like in your country?

  • I'm in Canada too, and I can commiserate with your experience of trying to find bras here. I was wearing a 36B before (30F now). You can't find even a 32 band anywhere in the stores here, let alone a 28 or 30 band. I tried going to La Senza once to see if they had bras in 30F and I virtually got laughed out of the store. I finally found a local bra boutique and they fit me poorly also, so I gave up and bought something online instead. Thankful for this and ABTF communities too!

  • I'm in Canada too. There is literally one shop in my city that carries a wide range of sizes but the customer service is rude and condescending. One plus is that VS, Aerie, and LS apparently carry 30 bands now, but their bands are generally so stretchy and thin even on the first wear so they might as well be 32s.

I mean how many people actually fit in mass produced sizes??
