Porcelynne vertical flat wires

dbmamaz, ennakym @anyone else we have discussed flat IMFs with lately.

Porcelynne now offers vertical flat wires and I have have been trying them out in my Elomi and Curvy Kate bras. I have to say they have reduced the digging in and riding below my IMF a TON!!! Unlike the vertical wires Panache uses, these ones are flattened on the bottom. They retain a narrow, vertical profile, just like other vertical wires, but are somewhat shorter on the sides and at the gore, and flat and rounded at the bottom. They match my IMF quite well. I am wearing a size 54 on my smaller side an a size 56 on the other, as my root is shorter on one side and longer on the other. They measure about 6.5-7 inches tip to tip and are about 13-13.5 inches long, just the right length for my old 40M - Wellfitting » Liftsational Classic Plunge bras but too short for my other bras.

I thought that these kind of wires which are not the punched steel of Panache would be unsupportive but I get a nice soft tack rather than the punch in the sternum I got with all the Panache wires (~ 30HH) I was replacing my old wires with. The key to get the sides to not stretch back seems to be to make sure the top band of the bra is not overly stretched, pulling the top tip back and distorting the whole wire (and the apex of the cup, where I need the most room). I now wonder if I have been doing it wrong all along, wearing an overly tight band which has been pulling my wires back.

The other problem is that now I'm replacing my wires, I get what maddy2596 was saying about the band angling up. When the bottom of the cup is shorter because the wires are shorter, the band no longer starts at the bottom of the cup. So more tension is placed on the tips of the wires rather than the base of the cup curve. I have to make sure to position the curve of the wire right where the band starts, so the band isn't pulling just on the vertical portion of the wires. In some bras where the band starts further up the side of the cup it's not possible and is a problem I've never thought about before, even though Bras I Hate and Love discussed it quite a bit. I do think that's one of the reasons why Comexim bras feel more comfortable to me: their wires are stabilized in a non-stretch wing and the band start below the base of the wire so the tips of the wires aren't pulled too far out.

When I was wearing my bras too tight, I did get dig in from the tips of the wires (as they are so short) but now that I have my band tension figured out nothing is digging in on the sides, the gore, or the bottom of the cup. As the wires are so much softer I'm getting much more of a light, suspended feeling rather than a medieval torture device (strapped in and metal prodding everywhere).

This is a long post and probably confusing without pictures. I will probably make another post with pictures soon. I am pretty excited to finally have wires fitting in my IMF and not strangling me, so...

  • Thank you so much for sharing! :)

  • You've mentioned this before and I"m fascinated - aside from the fact that I'm totally not ready to put this kind of brain power towards a bra yet. I have been wearing my bands looser and it seems a little better that way - tho i'm not sure if its because its really better or i've gained weight (which is what I think). I'd sworn off 75s when that 75JJ - Ewa Michalak » S Magique (834) was so damn loose, but I'm starting to feel my 32s are too tight. hence my post about elomis.
