To wash or not to wash

Today I read in a blog entry somewhere that if you don`t wash your bras often enough, they won`t last as long because of the skin oils etc. I always thought that washing bras is like with any other garment: it always damages the material a little (even hand wash) because of the soap and you should therefore wash as rarely as possible.

How often do you wash your bras? To be honest, I usually wear a (non-sports) bra 10 times at least until I wash it because they never seem to need it....

  • I wash them after one wearing because I live in a very hot and humid state. If it’s cold outside I might do it every other wear.

  • i wash after 2-3 wears and more often in the summer. I feel that washing them often will prevent the band from losing elasticity as quickly but i don't have proof of this. I just know that for me a newly cleaned bra regains the tightness that was lost after 2 days of wear.

I will wash a sports bra after 2-3 wears. Because i wear them for only an hour at a time, accumulation of oil and dead skin isn't as much of issue. My regular bras get dirtier from a relatively sedentary 14 hour day than a half hour of jogging. The sweat evaporates and I don't leave behind any body odor on them (as far as I can tell lol....).

i don't feel like soap damages the materials as long as you're using something gentle and not like a ton of Dawn.
