Riding Down

The bands of many of my bras (all 34 or S, but not all created equal) do this in the back even with the straps tightened to compensate for it. Has this issue been discussed here? I might have some peculiar measurement in the vertical direction that causes it.

  • You definitely shouldn't have to be overtightening the straps to prevent ride-down. How far down do they travel? It's a myth that underwires need to be RIGHT in the inframammary crease--if the bra is comfortable, aesthetics of the fit are OK with you, etc. then a tiny bit of ride-down is not a problem. If it's miles under the base of the breast root, of course, that's a sign that something's not right about the fit. Common causes include the lower pole of the breasts being much more projected than the cups can really accommodate (so the whole bra ends up pushed downwards allowing the breast to rest against a higher, and deeper, point in the cup), or the band being too tight. What is your underbust measurement vs. the band's unstretched/stretched measurement?

  • Yes, wondering how sure you are of your size? also obviously there is a huge range of bra quality - is it worse on some than others? also, you are saying it rides down in the BACK - not the front. The back should be fairly low, at least paralell to the front if not slightly lower, but if you have very broad shoulders and your ribcage is very V shaped, I think sometimes that can happen?
