How interesting!

Inspired by Branarchist

Marylin Monroe measured 35-22-35 at 5'5.5
Jayne Mansfield mearured 38-22-36 at 5'6

Miranda Kerr: 32-24-34 at 5'9
Candice Swanepoel 33-23-34 at 5'9.5 (I don't think her actual bra size falls in the VS range, I'm guessing she'd be a 28E)

Over the last 50 years we've just stretched out our beauty ideal...and I don't believe it when model sites list girls with obvious A-cups, no waist to mention as '34-24-34'. They're simply NOT that curvy. They have to fit into normal clothes. Just look at them, they're straight! How do I know this?

Me: 34-24-36 at 5'10.
You can't have no boobs at all and a lower BMI than I have and have the same overbust measurement!

Conclusion: we're being lied to!

And I'm weird.

  • I was looking at Victoria's Secret over the weekend since they've expanded to include 32DDD. I thought about giving them another shot since I still think they make some of the prettiest bras out there (and some of the ugliest and tackiest too, but that's a different matter) but ultimately decided against it. What I was really looking for were swimsuits and they haven't expanded that range yet. But anyway, I was thinking, there's no way most of their models fall into their very limited size range. They must have the bras altered or pinned and tucked into place. Ten years ago, their models could probably walk into a Victoria's Secret store and get a well-fitting bra off the shelf. Not anymore.

  • A size 12 in the 1950s is NOT the same as a US 12. Heck it varies by country even today still. Anyone who sews can tell you that even pattern sizes today do not match up to normal sizing. I wear a 10-12 US these days but if I want to sew from a pattern I have to use size 16-20

Based on those meaurements you listed they would fit into a 8-10 US according to a couple of my modern patterns.
