So here's something I've been wondering for a while. What is a plunge bra, exactly? Is there some kind of standard for how low it plunges, or is it completely arbitrary? Does it vary from place to place? In Victoria Secret and La Senza (the big bra manufacturers near me), plunge bras have suuuuuuper low or even inverted gores. They're great for wearing under low cut tops, but they aren't supportive enough for daily wear. Not for me, at any rate. I recently bought a couple Comexim plunges, and their gores are about the same as all my other non-plungey bras. Is it just a marketing word that doesn't really mean anything?

  • I would guess that each manufacturer defines what a plunge is. I feel like my Comexims are more like slightly lower balconettes than plunges, except for the "extra deep" plunges which are more similar to my EM plunges. I remember wearing a VS plunge a long time ago and the gore wires didn't connect, just a thin strip of fabric in the center. I also feel this would depend on cup size. Comexim seems skittish on the larger cup sizes to me.

  • That was my guess too. And I think you're right about Comexim's being a lower balconette. I'm not complaining - I can usually tell just by looking if the gore will work for me or not. It just seems so arbitrary.
