Starting all over / small band, wide set/wide roots?

After (a lot of) years of thought, I decided it would be best for me to have a breast reduction -- I've been through 2 years of physical therapy with no significant improvement, round 3 of which was for a new shoulder issue that cropped up out of the blue and made me unable to work when it decided to flare up. It wasn't an easy choice to make, especially with the peace I've made with my body recently, but it was getting clear that my body wasn't able to handle its endowment. ;D

I'm two weeks post op now, and hot diggity, I am thrilled. Though I'm too cautious to say my back and shoulder pain is gone for good, I haven't had the debilitating burning/seizing up that I used to have, and it's incredible. I can also go without a bra in public without mothers shielding their children's eyes! Amazing! Which is great, because it still kind of hurts to wear one, and any that we have in the house (an example I brought to the surgeon as a goal and my mom's very dainty ones) don't fit right.

I'm back to square one with fitting and figuring out my size/shape. I feel like I just have a less extreme version of what I had before; definitely center full and a bit wide set, and more even than FoB. Measurements, depending on swelling, are sitting around 28/32 or 33, which should theoretically put me in a 28D. I'm hesitant to buy anything expensive as the fit won't last; people who have this surgery generally lose a few cup sizes as the swelling goes down (which, let's be honest, I hope happens to me--I want in on target bralettes, and I asked for Bs, which he said he tried to give me!) The closest fit I've gotten has been a 34D sports bra, which is actually a snug fit, so I'm not sure I believe the tag on the 34. It leaves a little bit of empty space on the top.

I'm going to check out the giveaway section here, but does anyone have suggestions for small bands and wide roots/wide set breasts? Most of the things I've tried in smaller bands have been reeeally close-set and narrow and don't accommodate the tissue/swelling I have to the outside.

Thanks all! I love being part of this community! ;u;

  • Just wanted to say that when you doctor says it can take up to a year before your breasts truly settle into their new shape and size, it really is true! I would strongly suggest staying in light-control sports bras and/or bralettes if you can manage it (idk if you are needing something to wear to work or what have you). I wore front zip sports bras for quite a while after.

    I'm really not familiar with this size range, but I would suggest starting here: https://www.bratabase.com/browse/by-size/ This is one of my favorite pages on Bratabase! Click on the size you want, then "measurements" on the next plage just above the pictures, select which measurement you want to be highlighted in the chart below, and et volia! You don't have to select a measurement to highlight, but it makes the chart easier to read.

    For example, here is size 28E, with cup width highlighted and sorted by widest to narrowest. https://www.bratabase.com/browse/by-size/28:6/measurements/?direction=-&hide_discontinued=False&order_by=cup_width&filter_by=cup_width

    There's a lot of information there but maybe it will give you a starting point.
