I've started to buy bras in band 34 but alter them to a 28/30 . My boobs are pretty small too, they don't really bounce all around when i run etc. No one would be like oh damn her tits are huge. But a 34C (@sorella @sloggi @triumph) altered to be about a 28DDD/28E is too small for me such that there would be gaping. I guess i should start buying larger sizes? But i feel like i may be thinking my boobs are bigger than they actually are. I kinda panic when girl friends ask me what my bra size is because im afraid they'll think im overestimating myself or whatever.

  • thats a common problem - people have these ideas about what bra sizes mean. but what you need to do is buy bras that fit you and not worry about what other ppl think. There si a project somehwere w pictures of women of various sizes so you can see what they really are, hopefully someone will come along w the link

  • Actually just doing a Browse-Search by Size here on Bratabase will give you a real idea of what sizes are. :-) Search by 28:4, 30:4, 32:4 etc and you will see how real women look in the standard "D" cup and how it varies.

The biggest issue is everyone has this "idea" of what a cup size equals to and it is incorrectly independent of the band size. You say "I'm a 30D" and all they hear is D cup and get this image of a boxom woman with these large round breasts without realizing there is a big difference between a 28D-30D-32D-34D-36D-38D etc and so on. In reality there is a 5 cup difference in volume between a 28D and a 38D. Reality is that a 28D cup has the same volume as a 30C, 32B, 34A, 36AA, & 38AAA.

Add to it the delusions of women wearing a totally incorrect bra size due to wrong sizing methods and denial and you often have women who should be a 28:8 (28FF/28H) wearing a 36:4 (36D) simply because they don't know anything below a 32 or above DD exists. Let's not forget to add those who stuff themselves into say a 34C when they should be like a 32FF simply because they think of their breasts being too small to be a anything larger than a C cup. It's all due to media portrayed ideas and misinformation.

Believe me when I say that your doubts and fears are shared by many women of all sizes.

While it is difficult to not care what other people think, it is easy to just tell them it's none of their business. It is also easy to show them proper sizing methods and introduce them to Bratabase as well! If they have misconceptions of sizing, you could help them to understand the correct way, so they stop judging and get sized correctly themselves.

Even at my size I get called a liar and get those "looks" that say the same. I tend to avoid telling people my size unless I have the time to school them on proper bra fitting techniques, sister sizing, and overwhelming them with dozens of links to sites that back what I'm saying or prove I'm not wrong.

You are not wrong and you should buy bras that fit you both in band and cup. Please don't let other's misconceptions make you buy ill-fitting bras. You deserve a proper fitting bra!
