eShakti reviews/ musings

I have ordered a few dresses over the past few months from eShakti. I know that some of you have ordered plenty from them, and may have some valuable comments to add to this, whereas some people may be considering ordering their first dress (do it!)

eShakti is an amazing website where you can get clothes, mainly dresses, made to your custom measurements, and you can change aspects of the clothes, such as neck line, sleeve length, dress length. They have tons, and I mean tons of clothes to choose from, and they are not expensive, my dresses were around $50. Which is less than I would pay at a department store where I would struggle to find something that fit my various body parts correctly.

So here is where we get to my initial thoughts. I have ordered 5 dresses total (number 6 is en route). I have kept 2 of the 5. Those 2 dresses are amazing. They fit perfectly on me, and are the dresses that make strangers stop you and compliment the dress. Seriously. I think part of what I have experienced with the dresses I chose not to keep (returns are free and easy FYI) is the realization that I still have big boobs, and although I could get a dress made to my proportions, it wont change the laws of the universe as to what actually works/ looks good on my body. Each of us has different bodies and style preferences, and so I would encourage you to keep those in bind if you order a dress from eShakti.

For example. One of the dresses I ordered had a surplice neckline (where the fabric crosses over in front and there is a snap to keep it closed and somewhat modest). I suspect that dress was a little small in the bust, because when I did up the snap it was straining and visible. Beyond just that, a chiffon fabric with a surplice neckline and an empire waist really made my boobs look bigger than ever. Then the bottom of the dress was flowy too, and I just didn't feel very good. I looked a lot bigger than I actually am. I have found for myself that I need clothes that define my body, and dont let my boobs overwhelm everything else. Often I can wear a loose top or a loose skirt, but not both loose. Which takes me to the next dress that was a fail in the recent order. It had a a blouson top, elastic waist and flowy skirt to the knees. On the model it was an adorable summer dress. I looked like I had a big paperbag belted at the waist. In a cute print. But yikes. It was just puffy everywhere. An the v neckline that looked fine on the model did indeed show tons of cleavage on me.

The dresses I kept have things in common. They have structured top parts, not loose and flowy, but skimming along my body. They both have a defined waist, with a belt, and they are not very voluminous on the bottom half either. In short, they are a style of dress I would gravitate towards if I saw it in the store, but these ones actually fit me without any struggle. I am thinking that for future orders I will have to keep in mind which fits tend to be complimentary on me, and not just hope that a style that has never worked before will suddenly work for me just because they make it to my measurements.

I am really curious to hear you guys' experience with fits and fails with your orders from eShakti and if you have suggestions for the rest of us.

  • Do they still ship only to the US? I could not buy from them because of that. :(

Your dresses sound very interesting. Can you link to them on the website? It's so difficult to figure out which type of dress looks best and also fits your body right. Congrats on finding 2 good dresses!

I can only wear stretchy wrap dresses from regular stores. Everything else I need to alter, wear a belt with or most of the time it just doesn't work and looks frumpy :(

  • My hips are 47", my waist is 31". Any fabric that is listed as no stretch does not fit across my hips, even though I have these measurements input. I really don't know why. Maybe my hips are not set on my body where they expect them to be, or they expect my waist to be bigger, or the curve from my waist to hips is too extreme? All of my dresses were made before they added a bunch of new measurements, so maybe the new ones will help. That's the only fit foible I've had so far.

I have two shirts from them and they don't give me a defined waist, but they do have bust darts on them and I love that so much. The shirts are also made shorter for me, so they do not bunch up on my hips and look weird.

I like the knee length and just below the knee length best. I feel like for my hip size and height (5'4") that the longer dresses emphasize how big my hips are.
