Profession Bra Fitter Diary: Today I had a very fascinating encounter. Two customers came into the store, one wearing around a 32F and another wearing a 32B. Ms 32F had typical low-hanging breasts that gave a lot of cleavage in a bra, but had to size down to a 32E because her current bra was too big in the cup from my assessment.

Ms 32B I knew straight away was in the wrong bra. She didn't know how lucky she was to have me as a fitter, because like me she actually had shallow breasts which even professional fitters misdiagnose, because they can be mistaken for simply being small just because they lack projection. Her breasts were both wide and tall, so I could see that she was actually spilling out of her bra at the side and top. Two bras later she was actually a 32E, just like her cleavagey friend.

Here we have a case of a woman who knew she had boobs, and a girl who thought she had none. They looked completely different to each other; with one full and projected, and the other appearing nearly flat-chested, yet actually had the exact same size boobs.

This experience stays with me because as a woman with rare shallow 32J boobs I'm constantly faced with customers my size or smaller than me, who of course look huge, since a 32J is a very large size, but I get mistaken for being a D cup despite being sometimes bigger than they are. It's easy to get envious. Seeing how two women with the same size boobs can be so incredibly different is assuring to me in a way, because it tells me that, yes my shape at this size is uncommon, but my boobs are just as valid as a woman who is a 32J and has miles of cleavage.

  • If is interesting. I just bought 36DDD for the first time accepting my size. My husband says "you aren't that big" Well, I am very wide, high roots, close set, wide set, very little projection. This site has helped me understand this. I used to wear a 38 B when I was 34:40.5 if you can imagine as a professional fitter.
    Really good post. Thank you.
