What does it mean when the underwire on a bra sits like an inch or so below your breasts? Is this a sign of a poor fit?

I'm really confused now. I have one bra that is pretty comfortable, but I get the quad boob thing with the top sometimes (not always, but after wearing it for awhile.. quad boobs...), and the center gore doesn't sit flat against my skin. So, from that, I would assume that I need to go up a cup size or two. I don't think the bands a problem -- it doesn't ride up and feels comfortably snug -- but I wonder, if I go up to an FF or G cup, do I need to go down a band size to get the same snug bra band?

Anyway, like I was saying... this same bra has another problem -- the underwire sits an inch or so below my breasts, even with the straps adjusted tightly. From this, I would assume that I'm not filling out the cups as fully as I think I am, but since I'm getting quad boob, obviously I need a bigger cup size... but I think the underwire issue would occur with a bigger cup size, too.

  • It usually means that the bottom of the cup is too shallow for you, preventing your tissue from dropping into that space, or it can be the 'orange in a glass' effect (http://bustyresources.wikia.com/wiki/Orange-in-a-glass_effect). Both of these could even be causing the quadboob; even if the volume of the bra should really be correct for you, you're not getting to use it all.

  • I agree that the cups are probably too small, so the bottom part of your breast only fits in the smallest part of the cup, then the weight just naturally pushes the wire down. It may also mean that the band is too big so it's not supporting your breasts, it's being dragged down by them. If you think the wire is a good fit for your root you may just need a deeper cup style. Regardless, it sounds like you need a smaller band. Try to assess each component separately (band, wires, cups, in that order) to identify where the issue is. If they all seem ok but the bra as a whole doesn't fit, it's probably a style issue, not a fit issue.
