Snug straps - a bad sign?

I'm a narrow-shouldered person, and bra straps tend to slip off my shoulders. As a result, I usually tighten my straps to what would be considered very snug by most people, and I can't help but worry that I'm falling victim to some sort of reverse-letterphobia.
Take my Curvy Kate Princess, for example. In a size 32G, the cups cut in a little but nothing major . . . until I fix the straps. Then I'm spilling out and I find the cups too small! Am I adjusting them too tightly?
Since I started wearing bras, I was always bothered by straps being too long and falling off, and now that I'm in a MUCH more appropriate band size (32 as opposed to 36) it's getting better, but I still like the straps being snug. Is that a bad sign?

  • Are you petite? And/or are you high on chest?
Because strap (over)tightening is rarely only about narrow shoulders.

  • It's hard to tell without pictures, but I feel like the main cause of reverse letterphobia is wearing your bra too low. Take your most comfortable bra. Now hike it up as high as you can go without boobs spilling out from the bottom. This position provides the best support. Now tighten the straps just tight enough that they don't fall off your shoulders or move around too much (putting too much weight on the straps can put a lot of pressure on your upper back and neck). Make sure the bra encompasses all of your breast tissue. If you have some on your sides, LIGHTLY scoop it so that it's enclosed by underwire (or if it's wireless, by the cup). Is the cup too big? Is the band uncomfortably tight? Does the cup reach up much higher than you're comfortable with or to the point where it just doesn't look right? If none of these are true, you're probably fine.
