Does overspill in the center always mean size up?

While researching I've noticed a few women with breast shapes similar to mine (close set, soft, basically the women who have cleavage all the time) complain of over spill towards the middle. Now I have some bras that appear to fit okayish at first after swoop and scoop but gradually, over the course of the day my boobs apparently miss each other and try to come together... Then the next time I look at them - especially recently as my skin has gotten looser due to nursing - they are quad boobing hard and hanging over the edge of the cup in the middle of the cups. I can swoop and scoop again but they'll eventually return that way. This is actually something new for me so I'm not sure if it's from my breasts that seem to have suddenly gotten softer after 6 months of nursing or the new bras themselves which are balconettes.

Now the bras in question are not a good shape for me. They are too East-West and have a number of other issues. This doesn't happen in a full cup probably because it can't but my question is how do I and women like me solve this problem specifically ? And does this mean I'll fall out of plunges like Ewa Michalak 's? Is it because of the center gore, or cup separation or all of the above? It's frustrating because it leaves a lot of empty cup on the sides too so I'm sure sizing up won't work.

What exactly causes this and what do we look for in new bra styles to avoid this?

  • What causes it is cups that are too shallow near the center. It's complicated, but...if you look at the wires and they form a wide, shallow U--where the wire, starting from the gore, has a long sloping angle to the bottom--they might not work. For starters, look for a wire that forms a deep U.

Second, the cup itself might be shallow (I think the east-west shape would be a good example).

You need to look for bras that are described as having a lot of projection, where the wires are narrow (and you'll have to define narrow for yourself--for me it's 6 inches wide or less).

Also, try a bra with a higher gore.
