Overbust measuring - tape tight or loose?

I asked this question a couple of days ago specifically relating to Ewa Michalak, but didn't really get a response. I actually think it's more of a general question:

When measuring the overbust, how tight should the tape be (either when standing or leaning)? I get a difference of about 8cm between a loose and tight tape, which obviously makes a big difference to the cup size recommendation when I plug the figures into a calculator.

  • It's generally recommended to have the tape loose as you can without it falling down for bust measurements. You don't want to compress any tissue. For underbust you want comfortably snug for most UK brands. I think Ewa's calculator advises a supertight, exhaled underbust measurement.

  • Brasmew is right. Ewa's calculator also has a comfortable underbust measurement. On that one you don't have inhale or exhale. And don't measure tight or loose just medium
