Band size?

I have to say, I'm kind of mystified by the measuring of band size. Sure, I've read about all the guides I can get my hands on on how to measure, but just what does a "firm" measurement mean? What do you folks choose to list for your measurement on here?
I just tried again, and got 37in measured quite loosely but normally exhaled, 35.5in for my best estimation of what "firmly" might mean, and 32.375in as fully exhaled and tightly as I could measure myself, anyway. (Darn boobs getting in the way of easy reading. Don't they know I'm doing this for them?)
But I just wish there was a better quantified way of doing this, especially on a squishy torso.
And then, even if you do have a size to go off of, it seems like so few bras run "true" to size that it's almost pointless anyway. Can you tell I'm having a frustrating bra night? :p

  • Well, the super-super-super tight one, probably tighter than you can measure, is what you are supposed to use for the Ewa Michalak size table (which otherwise doesn't work at all). Based on stories from women being measured by her no one has ever gotten that tight on their own.

So, this is just a story, but the point is that this measurement, this overly-tight-close-to-killing-me measurement, usually adds up with adding 3-4" to it to the comfortable but snug. Still doesn't say anything about how you should measure , But I would say that firm is firm without squishing or strangeling, So your 35.5 sounds quite good, but yes, it is hard to know.

  • You measure loosly exhaled and then you measure super-duper-rip-the-tape-measurer-tight while exhaled, and your bandsize should be somwhere inbetween that two numbers. So on average, I'd say 36 in firmer bands and 34 in bands that are known to run loose.
