What type of Bra and Size do I need?

I'm having trouble finding a bra that fits me. The bra is always either too shallow, cups are too wide or too small, I end up with quadboob, or it looks like it flattens me out. I have Close-set, FOT, Tall Root, Narrow Base (at least that's what I have found a few days ago). What type of bras would be good? I have tried balconettes but I feel like they don't suit me but maybe it's because I haven't found the right size. I also don't know what size I am, originally I thought I was a 28D but those are too small in the cups, Tried 28 DD also didn't fit. I tried a 28E which also seemed to small. I have tried some 30DD, and 30D. I know that the sizes are not the same in all bras but based on my measurements and what I've tried idk what to try anymore.

Measurements are
Comfortable ribcage 28.8
Loose ribcage 30.0
Tight ribcage 27.0
Horizontal perimeter 7.5
V. breast perimeter 7.1
Laying breast perimeter 6.7
Nip 2 Neck 6.9
Breast base height 6.7
Frame width 11.0

  • I'm not as adept at the bratabase way of measuring, but I would think this would land you around a 30E-F/28F-FF. Since you haven't got much squish on your rib cage, you might find 30 bands more comfortable than 28s. A lot of ladies without squish prefer to size up a bit for comfort, but there are also those on the other end of the spectrum. I find I need a snugger band in UK bras than I do in European bras, on average, due to the differences in construction.

It's an unfortunate truth that in the sub-32 band range, bras tend to be wider than the average breast wearing them. The scaling is often way off. Given the FoT shape and tall root, a bra with stretch lace up top might be your easiest fit. But the close set boobs might make bras like Panache Andorra/Envy/Jasmine a bit much at the gore. I'm not sure how Panache Idina fares for FoT, but I think it might be stretch lace. Panache Andorra Plunge might be worth trying - the wires are wide in my size range, but I'm not sure how they come up in yours. The Just Peachy (figleaves) Stretch Lace Balconette would also be worth a try. Cleo Marcie may work as well if you don't need too much depth at the bottom of the cup.

  • sayitifyoumeanit I don't think that the scaling is often way off in the way you describe. By far the vast majority of bras actually seem to hit the average mark -- I very rarely see wires with anything above 5.2 inches for the 28D-F range. Scaling might be off for a lot of bras in larger cups and smaller bands but medium- and smaller-sized cups in smaller bands aren't systematically messed up.

OP's general shape in other contexts has been very full-on-top to shallow, along with trying bras that are too small. She has logged 12 bras, but given her shape (and size range similar to mine) I absolutely would not recommend any of the normal Panache bras that we'd recommend for projected ladies in higher cup sizes.

I would probably suggest something like Freya padded half-cups (even though they're wider), Elle Macpherson (the padded "contour" bras are very FoT-friendly and have narrow wires). It doesn't sound like Cleo is going to work in general, unless she wants to try Marcie in a size up -- ideally 30DD since it's a firm bra in general. Mimi Holliday shoulder bras might work as well.
