band size and relation to wire width?

Ive never been more confused in all my life haha

I seem to fit a Uk 34h

But....wondering if id be better off in a 32hh

I measure a comfy tight 34" but I do have ribcage squish.

But what will sizing down in the band do to the wire?

Sorry if this is a stupid question :-)

Thanks!

  • So, here's the thing - you need to find the right band size - and ONLY order that size. if the band is not too painful and does not slip higher in the back, the band is the right size.

If you get too small a band, you will be stretching out the cups and distorting them so that they dont fit correctly.

If you need a wider cup, order a bra that has a wider cup, dont buy a smaller band to try to stretch it out, or buy a larger band hoping it will be proportionally bigger - find a bra with wide cups.

OTOH, if you find that your bras are slipping down in front and up in teh back, it could be that yes, you need a smaller band - if you want the same cup size in a smaller band, you would need one letter up. A 34H cup is the same depth as a 32HH cup.

  • Actually some people do size down in the band (lower than what they can comfortably wear) because they have noticed that in one particular bra design, the wires are narrower in the sister sizes in smaller bands. But they have to wear the bra with an extender. This is kind of a last resort though. Also, I would venture to say MOST brands do not use substantially different wire widths for sister sizes that are just 2 band sizes apart (34 vs. 32).
