Ebay issues

Slightly related because I'm selling bras/I know others on here sell on ebay--but mostly unrelated question.

Does anyone have problems with buyers not paying for items?
I've had some other problems and read a lot of others complain of this, but never experienced it myself.

The idea that someone wouldn't pay didn't come to mind when listing items, so I didn't include anything about it in my listings. In the past week I've had 3 buyers not pay for items.

*minimildrant It kind of confuses me, because they were those people who bid literally last minute, which I do, but then there's no way you *forget* that you may have won something and you just pay immediately. I figured maybe they were waiting for Friday, so I let it go.
-end

I know that I have to message them and then relist the items if they don't get back to me, but what's the appropriate wait time for a payment and response?

At least ebay listings are currently free, otherwise I'd be really upset. It's more of an inconvenience and a let down since they outbid others. I'm just more confused about what to do without being pushy or rude or something o_o

One last question, my boyfriend mentioned that you can restrict uses from bidding on your items if you see they have "negative"(since you aren't allowed to give buyers actual negative feedback) feedback.
I've never heard of this, is it true?
I'd like to take more precaution.

  • I set all of my listings to "Buy It Now" and require immediate payment upon purchase. I don't even bother with auctions anymore. This ensures I NEVER have problems with payment. If they can't pay, then they can't buy. :) I don't have time to deal with wishy-washy buyers. I am only interested in selling to people who can pay as soon as they decide to purchase something. I've been on eBay since 2002 and find this is the best way it works for me. You can also set buyer requirements to help as well.

  • Yes, I've definitely experienced this. By and large, it's not an issue. But the more things you sell, the more issues like this you are likely to encounter. eBay has a function which allows you to report buyers (it requires you to wait a certain amount of days before being able to do so though). I strongly suggest you do that. While it's likely nothing will happen with the buyer (they're either going to pay you or not), if they are a repeat offender, it goes against eBay policy, and I think (? don't quote me) eBay may prohibit them from buying on the site. You can also set up your buyer preferences, so that buyers who have a certain amount of these 'strikes' against them can't bid on your items. I agree with BumbleBean that the best way to prevent this from occurring at all is by setting up a Buy It Now price, but I also understand sometimes there are just items you want to rid of, and more often than not the best way to do so is with an auction.

People are weird, especially when it comes to buying things. Try to protect yourself from the weirdness as much as possible. I've sold a lot of stuff on eBay, and have racked up all kinds of stories. People never cease to amaze me, and not always for the better.
