Lace trim under wires

So, i'm squishy, short-waisted, low-rooted (J cup) and have a very large belly for my frame. Whatever little bit of cloth is underneath the wire channels will inevitably get folded under and smashed in to the - whats it called, inframammary fold or something? - by the wires. This is part of why Floris is most comfy - its got very smooth fabric trim. All the bras with lace or textured trim really hurt my skin within 3 hours.

I've considered cutting off the lace trim, but I'm seriously NOT a seamstress. Has anyone else done this? Is it simple or do I need to do something ot make sure the channel doesnt unravel?

  • Is is just lace, or is it the elastic too? You can't cut the elastic w/o compromising the structural integrity of the bra.

If it's just the lace, you can carefully cut it very close to the seam. If it's the elastic, you'd have to pick the seam(s) apart, cut and sew the elastic to the side of the cup, then sew the underwire channels back together. That would make the bra bandless.

  • If the lace is stitched independently onto the bra, you can use a seam ripper (Walmart) and just take the thread out holding the lace in place. It's a little pointed tool with a small cutting edge on one side of the point. : )
