Mammograms: Now I know why my left side is bigger
I found a big lump in the left side and went to a GP. I'm on vacation so I have no insurance here. The also found a smaller one on the right. They're both near my areola so I'm hoping they're galactoceles. They're no plugged ducts because they're not going away.
How bad are mammograms?
I'm still reeling from how much an ultrasound of the breast would be on the USA. I don't know how anyone can afford to live here.
I'll be going in a little over a month when I get home. I really just wish they'd do an ultrasound rather than a mammogram.

Oh, dear, how scary! I have not had a mammogram yet, despite having just turned 50, so I'm no help.
But in the US most people either have insurance, are poor enough to qualify for medicare, or dont get treated. I read some awful articles about doctors at ERs seeing patients who were basically dying and they couldn't do anything for them because without insurance they can only immediate stuff, not cancer treatment, for example.
and the new 'obamacare' has helped a lot of people but hasnt helped everyone.
But dismantling the for-profit insurance companies would be a huge task. We're sort of stuck with this horrible system that sucks up tons of profit off of medical care.
anyways, my friends keep telling me that mammograms really arent that bad. But you could always ask your doctor if they could do an ultrasound instead?
i have had mammogram and it really was not as bad as i thought it would be. it´s not nice but didn´t hurt either. it it much more accurate compared to ultrasound, if you dont have small firm breasts i really think you should go for mammogram. they don´t squish the breast to bruises or anything, just as flat as it needs to be to get all in the picture. good luck with that, breasts can grow all kinds of lumps that are harmless :)
