Got bras? Create an account

A big thank you to everyone who helped me find bras for my 14-year-old daughter (28DD). We've been having a lot of success with the Cleo unlined bras and she is loving her new bras. For anyone who is also a 28DD and has short roots and a lot of projection, and is interested in following her journey, I set up her bras under a separate account (her ID is LittleDiva ).

So now I'm tackling the job of finding bras that fit for my 12-year-old girl. The calculator is telling me she's a 26C and, like her Mom, she's got wide roots and a shallow shape. Since 26 bands are pretty much custom order only, I tried looking for 28B bras and came up empty. Just about the only company that sells these is the Little Bra Company and their styles were not very suitable for her age. They were also horribly expensive considering she'll probably outgrow them in 3-6 months, tops.

As I was getting a little desperate, I took her to our local Walmart and tried on a lot of bras just to find a cup that fit her. We ended up with the 36A three-pack bras that are in the teen section. I then dusted off my sewing skills and started creating Franken-bras. I had to drastically reduce the band, shorten the straps and move the strap attachment point in the back.

The results have been pretty good. They fit her pretty well, although I'm not sure if I'll have to further alter the top outer edge of the cup. She has the same problem as me (not surprising as she's kind of a little carbon copy of me when I was 12) in that she's so high chested, but wide and tall rooted that the top edge of the cup/strap attachment point seems to dig in a little to the side of her shoulder. We'll see how it pans out, as she's just started wearing the new bras for the last couple of days.

One thing that is confusing me is the sister sizing on this. If these bras are a true 36A cup volume, that would mean she would also fit into a 26E/28DD cup volume, right? I had her try on one of the 28DD Cleo bras that I bought for her older sister and it was a little too big in the cup (serious gaping in the top half of the cup) and still a little too narrow in the wire width. This was the Cleo Neve Plunge T-shirt Bra (7196) , which was very shallow (way too shallow for my older daughter), and I was going to return it.

The 36A from Walmart fits her in the wire width (barely) and is just shy of quadding on her larger side after she does the swoop and scoop. The band is now a true 26 band and fits snugly, as do the straps. I guess it's possible that the teen brand is not accurately labeling their cup sizes, but if they are, I'm at a loss trying to figure this out. I still can't confirm what her actual size is, and it's bugging me. Any suggestions or explanations would be welcome!

  • What this brings to mind is the Freya deco, perhaps the one that is non-underwired. If the cups run shallow enough I'll bet a 28D would work, with the band altered down.

  • Oooooh wait you might be able to find one in 28C! Freya Deco Moulded Soft Cup Bra (4231)
