Not looking / identifying with / feeling your size?

Does anyone else sometimes feel like your bra size is much larger than you feel yourself to be? Or not identify with 'large busted' issues?

After some boob growth and 'trial and error' with bra shapes & styles, I've found my general happy size around 30GG - and currently more often a 30H. So the medium range of the full bust world I guess. Overall I have a neutral-to-positive body image and *luckily* my boobs don't bother me physically (back pain, headache, boobs colliding with arms or the world).

Some well known bra blogs are / or have been somewhere around my size range (sophisticated pair, 2cakesonaplate, brasihate, beckysboudoir) and these lovely ladies mostly describe themselves as 'large chested, full busted, well endowed, buxom' etc.

However, generally I don't feel especially 'large chested' at all! Yes I have breasts, they're noticeably present, sometimes clothes are too tight around the bust, but that's it? Do people recognize this?

For example:
a) IMO my boobs look way smaller without a bra, some irrational days I almost think they're too small;
b) Quite often I see my (large looking when unoccupied) bras laying around and I can't imagine fitting into them!
c) When I rummage around and find older bras (+/- 32E) and can't imagine when I ever fit into THEM!
d) When researching bra measurements (e.g. from my ever-growing Ebay wishlist) on Bratabase, other boobs in similar sizes look much bigger to me;
e) Then looking at my added Bratabase pictures and thinking my OWN boobs look bigger than I'd imagined them, too!
f) Trying the largest size bra (e.g. 38F) in a 'regular' store like H&M - against better judgment but the sale rack can be tempting - intending to sister size and shorten the band... Bra looks BIG but in the fitting room I discover it's too small :/

Any of these examples sound familiar?

Don't get me wrong, I know I'm in a very 'reasonable' ball park / size range - I'm not sub-28 or J+. But after wearing G+ bras for around 2 years and still not feeling 'large busted', I was just fascinated by my own chronic underestimation of my breast size.

All in all I'm thinking it is good, living with big-ish boobs but not actually experiencing them as a burden (literally :p). But if so many GG/H cup ladies need tailored clothes (pepperberry/ biu biu) and feel like their boobs dominate their appearance, am I in denial? Almost makes me wonder if my self-image is wrong / distorted - like reverse body dysmorphia or so (dont mean to sound I don't take actual body dysmorphia seriously, but I'm honestly wondering if this is a thing)?

Anyway, penny for your input ;)

  • Weirdly, yes I have a similar, but opposite thing. I always considered myself really busty (I get asked constantly if I have implants, sometimes by strangers), but really, 26FF/24G is on the smaller side of sizes here.

    I do always feel like my breasts look way larger than most other women in my size range, but I think that's because they're so so projected. I do typically have to get my clothes tailored because there is a 13 inch difference between my bust and waist. I've also always have had back pain from developing super early (my spine is a bit hooked).

    So yes, I also have a different image of my breasts than actually exists.

  • That's very interesting!
    I think scale has a lot to do with it, too - you're petite so all the bits that 'stick out' will be noticed? ;)

    Friends and sometimes strangers do mention my chest size, but for example if I go to the sauna or swimming; I don't feel like I'm very much above average.

    I do also have a 11 inch difference between waist and bust. Less extreme than you though. And again, relative to frame. Also my large-ish hips & bum might help balance things out? Hourglassy pear shape here ;)

    Normally I don't alter my OTR clothes, but mostly wear (stretchy or vintage style) dresses and often add a belt to define my waist.
