"De-armoring" stretch lace upper cup?

Has anyone tried Bras I Hate & Love's de-armoring alteration on a bra with a upper cup made of stretch lace (eg Panache Jasmine, Cleo Hettie, etc)? I just received Hettie, and the stretch lace section of the cup as two layers. I know that the post says not to use bras with stretch, but I think that is because she use "de-armoring" the whole cup; Hettie has a non-stretch fabric for most of the cup with stretch lace on the top edge. Do you think it would work?

  • not that i ever do anything crafty, but I would think it would matter to some extent on your shape. The single layer of stretch lace will be less firm - if you have a tendency to bulge out, it will be more likely. I woudl think you'd jiggle more, too. but if you are not FOT, it might nto be as big an issue

  • I removed the powernet from the stretch lace on my Louisa bra (http://www.bratabase.com/bra/dl7fr/#). The reason I did it was because the powernet made the stretch lace pretty useless (i.e. it didn't stretch) so it ended up giving me a pointy shape. When I removed the powernet, there was space for my boobs to go and the shape ended up being less pointy afterwards, which is what I wanted.

I think your success will depend on your shape and also the stretch lace part. If it's too stretchy or for whatever reason it's too big, you might get bulging. In my opinion I think it'll be fine, but as always, there's always a risk when you're cutting stuff away.

If you're unsure, you can start with removing the top seam so you can get a better feel of how stretchy the lace is. If it's not to your liking at this point, you can just leave it and everything should be fine.
