..."a full B"?

I've been torturing myself lately by reading articles, reddit posts and all the comments about bras/bra sizes. Besides constantly struggling to resist the very strong urge to spam bra fit guides, I keep seeing people refer to their boobs as "a full B" or "a full C/small D" etc. and I'm trying to figure out what it's supposed to mean. I think I've come up with a theory by combining the "matrix only" and ABTF lines of thought.

Those of us in the know about proper sizing techniques and the huge size range that exists, have 'access' to a large amount of size combinations that allow us to get a much more precise fit. For those 'stuck in the matrix' there's a much, much smaller range of sizes which leads to a pretty large variation in the 'actual size' of the breasts that are stuffed into the limited matrix.

I'll use those typically measured as a 34B at a mainstream store like VS as an example. Going by measurement checks on ABTF, they often end up measuring in at a range of sizes like 28F/30E/32DD etc.. I'm thinking that "full" or "small" would be indicative of which end they "fit" into that B cup before they reach the threshold at which they're more likely to wear "an A" or "a C" - if that makes any sense.
Let's say VS measures two people as a 34B but using ABTF methods, one would actually be a 30F and the other a 28DD. Even though they wear the same 34B bra, the 30F might be more likely to appear as and consider themselves to be "full" and the 28DD might be "small".
I might be stating the obvious, or perhaps I'm totally off in my reasoning. Maybe it's more relative to their shape, like how shallow boobs appear to be smaller than they are while projected ones are more 'obvious'.

What do you guys think? How does it read to you? If you've ever used the phrase yourself, what did you mean when you said it?

  • I used to refer to myself as full B small C or full C small D depending on the size I wore at the time, though I had never tried actually wearing a D cup, or if I did I though it was too big because it covered too much (assuming I probably didn't S&S) I wore 34B for a long time and then in my mid 20's started wearing 34C. I now wear a 30E/F or 32DD/E, the ABTF calculator gives tells me 30FF, but I only have one bra in that size that fits and it's known to run small.

  • Yes, well also there's the public (mis)perception of cup size that is based on how wire-free bras were sized oh, about 40 years ago. Obviously with a vintage full cup construction and without a wire you can accommodate a wider range of breast volumes at a single sizing point.
