Didn't fit

I have two bras of this model, the oldest of which was purchased in February, 2007. The bras are washed by hand and are worn infrequently.

This is not an everyday bra. The plunge is quite pronounced, and the padding and shape give you a lot of cleavage. It's a good bra to wear with a low-cut shirt, if you really want people to notice your breasts. It is by far the most supportive plunge that I have ever encountered, and the cups are quite comfortable. But because there is only one hook, it just doesn't support well enough to be a daily bra.

By now the cup is a bit too small for me, so I have to carefully adjust to prevent overspill. It fit perfectly well when I bought it, however, so this is just a case of my breasts having grown and the cut being especially unforgiving for that sort of thing.

I did notice that the bra has stretched considerably, and it is now a bit too loose even on the tightest hook. I have not yet seen the need to have it altered, however.

This bra is not owned any more

  • Strange... I have 3 retro basics, and none of them are the least bit padded, nor are they what I would consider plunge bras. They also all have two hooks, not one. That said, all of them were purchased in 2008-2009, so maybe they've been redesigned.

  • I believe the 'retro basic' term covers both full-coverage and plunge bras. I noticed the same thing looking at another bra--they had both a full-coverage and a demi that went by the same model name. I think they had different model numbers, however--in this case the two you pointed at certainly seemed to have different numbers. It's somewhat frustrating that for the company the model refers to the look of the bra rather than the construction (which is by far more important in determining if the bra is good for you).

  • I just searched Figleaves for 'freya retro basic' and it comes up with both the bras as well as two sets of panties. One bra is "Retro-Basic padded plunge bra" and the other is "Retro-Basic full coverage bra". So both should be available in the US.

  • EmmyS, I think you're talking about the Freya Retro Basic *Full Coverage* with code 3421, as this the "regular" Retro Basic is plunge and has only one hook :)
