The reason this style bra is called a Sadie is because it makes your breasts sad. Basically, the cups allow the breast tissue to just droop. The point is that it's a nursing bra (although they make the exact same style as a "comfort" bra) which will allow breasts to fill with milk and have some room throughout the day in order to do this. I purchased this bra as a sleeping/I've-got-my-period bra because water retention makes my breast tissue swell just like I were lactating.

After reading many reviews on other sites, I determined to get both a band size larger AND a cup (or two) sizes larger. I'm glad I did! The band has almost NO stretch to it at all! I could barely get it to clasp on the first row of hooks - and because this is a nursing bra, it has four of them instead of the usual three (women's rib cages expand while pregnant to allow room for growing baby). This fits like a 34GG or 34H. VERY tight, yet the band can stretch to 40 inches! However, there's NO WAY I could have hooked a 36 band, even though I am 33 inches in my rib cage!

Also surprisingly, the cups were small considering the band size. For the measuring of non-wired/soft cup bras, I'm not entirely sure if one should include the side panel in the measurements or not. As underwire bras don't have this panel, I didn't include it with my measurement. With the panel, the depth would be 14 inches, but it fits much differently than an underwire bra with a 14 inch depth. Also, soft cup bras don't really have a gore as the middle doesn't lay flat against one's chest. (It technically can't or the cups would be far too big and the breast tissue would flop around - not really what you want!)

But by comparison to my 40DD - » 18 Hour Original Comfort Strap (4693) Playtex bra, this one actually technically fits. My breasts aren't being compressed into a tight vice. The Royce Sadie Nursing (819) bra has silver thread running through it to help with reducing odor, regulating temperature, being antimicrobial and apparently eliminating static cling (at least of the cloth near your breasts!). Along with a little silvery lace on the top and a tiny little contrasting bow at the top of the gore, that's about as "cute" as these sad-looking cups are going to get. Plus the way it is stitched makes the entire breast tissue pool into an unattractive "point". Definitely NOT a date night bra!

The material is incredibly thin. I think it should be comfortable enough for sleeping. Because it's a nursing bra, it has an extra clasp at the front which also has an additional support strap so that when you unclasp it for nursing, the whole bra doesn't collapse on you. Just run your finger under the back side of the strap, and snap! The front clasp comes undone. May cause a problem if you're just adjusting placement of your strap, but I can see why this would be nice for nursing purposes. Getting it back together, however, is a two-hand process.

I found the band under the arm to be too high up. Playtex solves this by making the material under the arm more curved. Surprisingly, Royce's cut does not have much curvature to allow room for the arm pit. The ribbing along this is ALSO very tight, and this is the point of contention for me with this bra. It's the part that makes it feel like it doesn't really fit. Laying down, however, I don't feel the tightness of the band under the arm, and so I think I can live with it for sleeping purposes (the reason I purchased the bra).
