Didn't fit

I should probably learn my lesson by now that Freya fashion bras are extremely hit or miss, but I keep hoping that another style will come by that will surprise me by fitting as nicely as the Fancies Plunge, one of my favorite bras. The Escape Lace Plunge is not it, although it is a pretty bra and the styling is rather unique for Freya.

First the appearance of the bra: black chevron stretch lace is overlaid over pink nonstretch tulle to form the cups, and the cradle and wings are made from open black mesh layered over pink tulle (cradle) and powermesh (wings). The styling and color scheme remind me of Agent Provocateur circa 2011, and I liked how the chevron lace give the bra a different appearance from your standard black lace option. There's a twin strap detail, but the twinned portion is kept short, and most of the strap is thankfully adjustable. This bra also has a rose gold triangular metal charm at the center gore, which makes me seriously wonder what's up with Freya and the triangular metal charms??? (Think Daisy, Sansa, Rose Tapestry)

Now, the fit. The band measures significantly longer on the flat than most of my 28DD and 30D bras, but it actually feels OK. This is a very low-stretch band, and I think the reason is that the cradle is much wider than my other bras of the same size. I believe this is partially due to the wider gore and the super splayed wires.

The underwires on this bra are a swoosh shape that is extremely open on the side. Normally, the outer portion of the wire curves up perpendicularly to the band, but the wires here are closer to a 45 degree angle. However, the bottom of the curve is not very flat and is rather narrow. This is a rather strange underwire shape, and I would be tempted to bend it back in to make the shape more even. Because the wire is so splayed, the top of the upper cup near the wing also sticks out funny when the bra is worn, as the underwire does not go the full way through the channel.

I also found that the straps are set too forward in the cups, leaving a lot of empty space between the straps and the wire. This also contributes to a weird appearance, as the straps are pulling up the cup vertically at a point where you are fuller, while the sides are empty. Because the tension is coming from the wrong part of the cup, the outer cup is empty, the outer third under the strap is pulled too tight, and the inner cup closest to the gore is where all the fullness needs to go. However, unless your tissue is very soft, it's unlikely that the cups will successfully redistribute you to fill out the inner cup. Most likely, you'll end up with areas of empty fabric, areas of extreme pulling, and areas where your breast tissue has no idea where to go. On top of that, the lace upper cup is made of the same stretch lace as the body, but with a nonstretch edge, which also serves to severely restrict the fit of the cup.

It's a pretty style, but the fit is kind of a hot mess. Unfortunately this style makes me not really want to try any more Freya fashion fits, as so many of them have been disastrous!

Band feels secure but has very low stretch. Cups are deep and pointy, can fill main cup but not the lace panel at top of cup. Cups are rather wide and wing out under the arms.

Top of the cup:
Wrinkles, can't quite fill it
