  1. Allegra Vertical Seam Bra (9091)

    Didn't fit

This bra is two sister sizes up from my preferred size. The band is way too large, unwearable as is, so my judgement of the shape of the cups may be off since it'll be based on what I can see while clutching the band down to approximately wearable.

I found this at a Nordstrom Rack for quite cheap, and I couldn't pass it up, even though I'm going to have alter the band down by a lot.

The band runs large, which isn't too surprising. It's not a firm band but quite stretchy. The wires are also quite soft and therefore very comfortable. The straps are mostly adjustable, maybe ... around 3/4. There's some decoration on the front of the strap that keeps it from being fully adjustable. The gore width is about standard for this size range, and it's not too high. There's a lot of space in the wire channel, so I shifted the wires out to leave a pretty floppy gore on my sternum.

The cup shape is where I'm at a bit of a loss. It fits better than its sister cut, the Fauve Chloe, but also fit rather differently across my two breasts. I don't have much asymmetry- just a slight difference in size and shape. It was a decent fit on my left breast (slightly larger, slightly less wide) and had some wrinkling on the top of the cup on my right (slightly wider and shallower). I don't know if unlined bras exaggerate differences or if there's some uneven manufacturing going on with this bra. I might sew a dart along the top of the cup to take care of the wrinkling.

It's almost shallow friendly, which is amazing. I think the cups want a tad bit more projection than I have, but the soft wires means that the cups end up just barely shallow enough for me. It's friendly towards tall roots, but it might cut in if you have a lot of upper fullness. I'd say even fullness would fit it best, with average to wide roots and average to shallow projection.

The mesh in the cups is not stretchy, but it feels like there's a bit more give than the Chloe. The entire bra feels softer than the Chloe. It's really nice.

My planned alterations will be to narrow the gore, fold the band over at the hooks, and sew some elastic onto the band. Normally, I can get away with either folding the band over or sewing elastic, but the band is large enough that I'm going to have to double up on my alterations. Also, depending on how the alterations affect fit, I may also alter the right cup so that it no longer wrinkles.

Update: I've narrowed the gore and folded and sewed the band over so that the straps start right at the hooks. To my pleasure, the band stretches to about 29 inches after these alterations, so I can get a couple of wears out of it on the second/third hook before having to sew elastic onto the band.

The cups are not as tall root friendly as I thought. It really fits even to FOB breasts better, but the fit, overall, is still decent. It just cuts into my tall, shallow roots a teeny bit. The wrinkles on the right are mostly gone, though I can still see a bit of empty space at the top of the cup. The cups are pretty true to size, which I'm thankful for.

So tl;dr cup shape: Average to shallow projection, even to FOB shape, not very open on top but not very closed either.

    • I have some asymmetry too (right breast smaller, narrower and shorter than the left) and I find that most unlined bras aren't especially friendly to differences in breast size or shape. However, I find my Fantasie Allegra to be no worse than any other. There's a bit of wrinkling on my smaller side, with a less rounded shape, but that's nothing unusual for me.

    • By the way, I'm guessing it might be more shallow in this sister size than in your true size (28DD?), as the cups will designed for the same volume of breast tissue, but spread over a wider ribcage.

    • You have a good point, alexad . 30D might have ended up giving me a lot of the same issues as my Chloe. I hope to find out one day, but for now, I'm pretty happy with my 32C.

I rarely try on unlined bras since so few are shallow, so that's good to know about unlined bras and asymmetry!
