Alice is such a gorgeous bra that has been on my wishlist forever. I finally took the plunge after doing much research on the size, and I’m glad that I did! It’s not a perfect fit, but I correctly chose a sister size that fits, and the bra looks beautiful. This bra fits like a 30DD.
In terms of sizing, feedback from reviews is that the Alice cups run one size big. My ideal size in this style would be a 28DD, one cup smaller than my normal size of 28E, but I couldn’t find this size anywhere. I ended up sister sizing into a 30D knowing that ... the band would be loose, but figuring that the cups would fit. The band is the same firm satin that is on my Masquerade Athena and Rhea. The Rhea 30 band fits better than this, because for some reason the band on this bra won’t lay flat on me and ends up wrinkled. It is firm, so it doesn’t really move around on me, but it’s definitely too big. I suspect this is because the wings are very short at the back and therefore less stable. The narrow wings at the back should be easy for me to alter though.
The cups on this style are a cut and sew 2HC with a low gore. It’s not really what I would consider a plunge, since that’s usually a 3 piece construction with sloping upper piece. Usually 2HC styles are less projected than 3HC styles, but this style is actually quite projected and is more projected than Rhea (3HC). The shape of the cups fits me well, though there may be a tiny bit of emptiness at the fullest part of the cup. The upper cup closes back in and is not completely open, but isn’t nearly as closed as Athena. The shape of the cup isn’t as center-heavy as Athena either. It gives me a really nice rounded profile. The only thing about this bra that I think is really not suited for me is the height of the outer cup and width of the strap positioning. This is a common issue for me with taller and wider cups, so it’s not surprising, but it makes me a little sad.
Appearance-wise, this bra is lovely. Cups are made from cotton covered foam, and the front is covered with embroidered mesh. The design is of large scale flowers and rosettes, and in the Mineral Blue colorway, they are tonal. The cradle and straps are made from Masquerade’s standard heavy weight satin. This has the plainest gore of all the Masquerade styles I’ve tried, as it just has an ivory floppy ribbon bow. It’s a bit Edwardian and elegant without being stuffy.
Despite some minor fit issues, I am very pleased with the fit of this bra, and am so glad I managed to find one! Now, time to hunt down the other colorway and potentially pick up the matching slip...
==========
Update: This fits me much better now, and I've ordered a second one in the same size and color for regular wear. Both bras measure very consistently!
