Following my ABTF calculator result (32F) and feelings of sheer disbelief/huge sticker shock after wearing a 34C/36B for 10 years, I felt I needed to test this 'ridiculous' theory by trying a cheap bra in my suggested size and those close to it that I could easily return. I bought three sizes of this bra from Asos to try out - this one, plus the 32F and a 34E.
What I liked:
-I found the material super soft. It's almost velvet-like.
-Cup width seems to be okay, maybe digging into a TINY bit of outer boob but that could just be fat or skin- i find it hard to tell so ... I guess that means it’s not bothering me that much.
-It has 3 hooks on the band, which for me helps to give a smoother profile.
-Straps are wide enough to feel supportive without being so thin they're pointless or so thick they feel frumpy.
-Just the right amount of padding for me. Enough not to show through clothes when it's cold, but could slightly see it if you were just wearing the bra.
-I think the band is a good fit for me. Sits just under shoulder blades, completely level all round, feels secure & like it holds me in.
-Gore tacks well, sitting completely flush.
-There's a J hook so you can wear it as a racer back.
-Only get angry red marks in one place (top of the cup near armpit/tail of spence) which is better than my old bras. The mark locations don't hurt until I take off the bra.
What I didn't like:
-After scooping and swooping I have a bit of quad boob on the left bigger boob at the top of the cup, and in the middle (apex?) of the cup on the smaller boob. Throughout the day this shifts to very slight gapping at the top of the cups.
-Right cup smaller boob has noticeable space at the bottom of the cup. Left cup bigger boob has a tiny bit of space too.
-It comes up pretty high in the armpit, which causes it to dig in quite badly to the skin near my armpit/tail of spence.
-Wire channels are quite a bit longer than wires, so the outer boob didn't feel as secure/pushed to the center as it could be if they were all the way through the channel.
-Felt like I couldn't get the straps to the right fit without using the J hook. They felt too close to the edge of my shoulder without it.
-Back fat coming out at the bottom under the band. I'm really not sure whether this is just normal for where I carry fat or a bra fit issue.
-Gore seems to be slightly squeezing skin together in the middle, creating a very slight tube shaped vertical bump. Left side of the gore very slightly sitting on boob. No idea how this is happening because without a bra my boobs seem set far apart (nipples point outwards due to center fullness, nearly 3 fingers of space between breast tissue in the middle). I'm still learning shape etc so will hopefully work out what this means.
Despite all this, I find this the most comfortable bra out of the three sizes I tried in it and have worn it several times, as I was desperate for something that vaguely fitted and was waiting until payday to order a better diagnostic bra. It’s acceptably comfortable, though my standards are probably low given what I was wearing before.
