    Hasn't set fit

    Ewe, Ewe, Ewe!!!! Lookie what I found!! I bought this at a thrift store Wednesday morning for $4!! It is a Charlotte Russe. : )

      dbmamaz Thanks! :) I think so, but not quite yet. They both seem to be a fit but they need some work:

      I need to get the lace reworked on the back of the Charlotte Russe, and i think it will be fine.

      The Forever 21 has a zipper that I need to figure out how to get closed with the tension on it. It has an elastic panel in the back.

      I'm not sure exactly what the picture is of, sort of looks like part of the laces found in corsets...?

      Yes, Scharminkeltje; they are both corselettes (?) without cups, so I didn't think it would matter. Ah, well, live and learn. I will take separate photos later today when I have time, and upload them.

      Very cute, it looks like you could even swap out the boning so that instead of plastic it has at least spiral if not spiral and spring/flat steel so that it actually cinches without needing to fear the moment that a plastic bone snaps and/or rips through the corset fabric.

      Fashion corsets have always been so disappointing for me, since they're often so beautiful yet nowhere near as strong as they need to be in order to create the "super dynamic hourglass" shape. :)

    • valentine556 So when you say using "spriral and spring/flat steel do you mean alternating between the two, or combining the two into each of the pockets?

    • It depends. The spring/flat steel are typically found in the boning channels closest to the grommets for the laces for stability reasons. The spiral steels are then used in the remainder of the boning channels. Fashion corsets with plastic boning generally make the torso look like a cylinder wrapped in pretty fabric. Not exactly what most have in mind when they buy a corset that's not adequate in structural design for any waist cinching. If there's no waist tape and it's not added after the fact, special care should be taken to not strain the corset structure with tight-lacing. Basically even with some upgrades there are limits to what one can or should expect from the corset - my guess is that it would be able to handle a 2" reduction but 4" on a regular basis will eventually - much sooner rather than later - kill the corset.

    • Ok, thank you valentine556! Now I'm understanding better! And the waste tape would run horizontally to reinforce the center? : )

    • Yes, however, adding waist tape to a corset will require figuring out how to do it without stitching through the boning channels - technically if the tape is only stitched down on the inside in the spaces between each channel it should be enough, but will be visible on the outside too unless you take the layers apart and that's even more complicated to put back together successfully. :) Might be better off getting a corset with the waist tape and steel bones for tighter lacing and the upgraded boning corset for lighter duty wear.
