likeI ordered these three bras hoping to find my fit in Ewa Michalak bras. The size was an educated guess based on information here on Bratabase in combination with sizing info on the Ewa Michalak website. At the moment of choosing these bras the only other bra that fit me was the Panache Andorra Full Cup in 28F.
Of these three bras, the PL Onyks is the only one that fits quite well. Below are my observations as to how the three bras compare in terms of sizing:
Bra band:
The PL Onyks 65E has the tightest band and is perfect for my 27"/69 cm underbust. I can wear it snugly yet comfortably on the loosest hook. It feels fairly stretchy so here is to hoping it won't stretch out too much too soon. The band has four hook positions though, so it should last okay.
The HM Gold 65E has a band that is only a tiny bit less tight than the PL Onyks. I can wear it comfortably at the loosest hook, although my first instinct was to tighten it more. I don't think that is necessary though as the band stays in place just fine and actually feels a little less stretchy than the band on the PL Onyks. Going down a band size will almost certainly make it too tight. This band too has four hook positions.
The CH Onyx has by far the loosest band of all. I could comfortably close it at the tightest hook, so I'd say it runs about one full size too large. I would definitely have to go down one band size in this model. The band feels equally stretchy as the PL Onyks, although the design is quite different. This band too has four hook positions.
Bra cups:
The PL Onyks and CH Onyx fit roughly the same in the cups, size-wise. With both I experience slight gaping (worse on my smaller left side), but it is somehow more noticeable and less obvious how to correct it in the CH Onyx.
Both of these bras come with 'cookies' to correct asymmetry (or give an extra boost). The 'cookies' of the PL Onyks are slightly thicker and studier than those of the CH Onyx. I also found them more effective in correcting the asymmetry caused by my larger right and smaller left side than the CH Onyx ones, though not because they are thicker: somehow their shape seems to work better with the shaping of the cups and actually correct the slight gaping that occurred due to the size difference. This didn't work in the CH Onyx at all: the gaping remained as persistent as ever. Also, the outline of the CH Onyx cup seemed slightly off with the 'cookie' in place.
The cups of the HM Gold run significantly larger than the cups of both other bras, I'd say possibly as much as a whole cup size. The shaping of this delicate, sheer, almost-not-there lace is equally amazing as the shaping of both padded bras though: lifted and round, just about perfect, even in this obviously too large size.
Bra straps:
The PL Onyks and CH Onyx both come with two pairs of straps: regular straps and wide, padded comfort straps. The latter are indeed wide, padded and comfortable -- AND look good, in my opinion -- but they are unfortunately not fully adjustable.
The straps on the HM Gold are fixed, decorative, and fully adjustable. They are slightly softer and more comfortable than the regular straps of the two other bras.
My personal considerations:
The PL Onyks 65E fits, and it fits quite comfortably, but because in certain positions I still have a little bit of gaping and my breasts fluctuate in size and density due to breastfeeding I'm curious to try one cup size smaller as well. I may order a 65DD just to see how we get along.
The CH Onyx puzzles me somewhat. On the one hand I feel it fits me better than the PL Onyks, but there is that weird discrepancy on my smaller left side. I personally like the look of this half cup better than the look of the plunge, so I may try and exchange it for a smaller cup and band size (60E) just to see if that would work better for me ... of course, this would put me in the custom-made no-return zone, so I have to think about this carefully (or start with a 65DD to check out the smaller cup size first).
The HM Gold has somewhat stolen my heart, so I'm definitely going to exchange that one for a cup size smaller (65DD) and hope the wires won't be too narrow on that one ...
