The Whimsy is the first unpadded Comexim bra I've tried. Since I am between 60G and 60H in regular Comexim styles, I asked Breakout Bras whether I should size up or down in this style. I was told to size down to my smaller size because the upper cup's stretch lace would work to accommodate asymmetry. However, they did not mention to me that the cup runs much deeper and taller than their padded styles. As a result, this cup fits much larger than expected and didn't work on me.
The band is nicely true to size, measuring exactly the same as most of my ... Comexim bras (except the Celebration, which came in 2-3 cm smaller than normal). The wings are all and firm, made from the same powermesh that is used on the Basic styles. The cups are made from printed tricot that has a little bit of give. The upper cup is double layered, with stretch grey lace over white mesh, and there is a strip of elastic at the edge that has just the right amount of tension to sit nicely on the body.
However, the problem with this bra is that it is proportioned completely differently from other Comexim padded styles. Not only is the cup much taller than the Padded Plunge, the bottom cup is also much taller, so the fullest part of the cup hits higher than normal. The cup measurements are also much deeper than normal. The bottom 2/3 of the cup fits me, while the entire upper 1/3 is empty. In addition, when I added my Commando Takeouts silicone inserts, I could only get this bra to fit if I added the inserts to the top rather than to the bottom. Thus, this won't work for FOB shapes. This would only suit very FOT shapes with tall roots.
I also found that the wires in this size were so narrow that they actually pinched me and were quite painful. They seem a bit firmer than the wires on my other Comexim bras, and the shape is more of a deep U/J than a gentler C curve. Another difference in the construction is that this is a 4 piece cup with side sling, though the side panels are not as restrictive as I've found Fantasie Side Support styles to be. The gore is also lower on this style than the Comexim Padded Plunge. The fit reminds me of some of the Freya 3 piece balcony bras where the wires are a bit too narrow for me and the cups are too deep, but to the extreme.
The rest of the bra is simple in detail, with a graphite bow at the gore and strap attachments, and textured white straps that match the solid band. The cups and cradle are made of the same floral printed fabric. All hardware is white plastic. It seems like a very comfortable summer bra if it suits your shape, but I think this style will be rather tricky to fit as you cannot just order your standard Comexim size if you are not the right shape for this bra. If I had ordered the 60H (28FF), the wires would have fit better, but the cups would have been even more ridiculously large and tall.
Sadly, this is going to have to be returned, and since there's not much info on other Comexim unlined styles in my size range, I might have to pass on these styles in the future.
